Laneway Presents Alex Pangman

 —  —

Canopy Music Theatre, St. Clair W/Dufferin Neighborhood, Toronto ON

This Friday, October 8th 2021 we welcome Jazz Songstress Alex Pangman under The Canopy

Tickets available. Reservations Required. Book now at CanopyMusicTheatre@gmail.com Presented by Laneway Distillers Alex Pangman is Canada's Sweetheart of Swing. The JUNO nominated jazz singer has breathed new life into the sturdy songs of the classic jazz era. She has played small jazz clubs, & large concert halls alike across North America including Koerner Hall, Massey Hall & the world famous Montreal International Jazz Festival. She has opened for Willie Nelson, Bob Newhart & collaborated with John Pizzarelli, Bucky Pizzarelli, & Ron Sexsmith. Her education in jazz starts with the shellac records of Louis Armstrong, & she soon found herself under the mentorship of Jeff Healey. In her sound, one can hear Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby, & Ruth Etting but Alex's zesty delivery, that crisp clear voice is unequivocally her own. She's not old fashioned, she is timeless, finding her territory somewhere between New Orleans & Paris. Pangman is not solely a singer; carefully choosing her own repertoire, composing original material, assembling her backing band & co-producing all of her recent recorded output for Quebec's prestigious ‘Justin Time Records’. Rather than some casual throwback, Pangman delivers a unique, reinterpretation of a timeless era, giving the music relevance in today's world. From sultry to heartbreak, sorrow to celebration, & an emotional depth that she has earned through her past struggle with Cystic Fibrosis, & subsequent double lung transplants. She is now an advocate for organ transplantation in Canada. Her most recent recording "Hot 3"explores the popular songs of the 1920s, 30s, and 40s and was recorded live off the floor to 78 in New Orleans, LA.
